IEEE 802.5 is a standard for token ring local area networks (LANs). It defines the access method, physical layer specifications, and protocol for communication between network devices. In the UK market, IEEE 802.5 has been historically used in telecom networks to provide reliable and efficient data transmission. The token ring technology ensures that only one device can transmit data at a time, reducing the likelihood of data collisions and improving network performance. While Ethernet has largely replaced token ring technology in many modern networks, IEEE 802.5 still plays a role in legacy telecom systems in the UK.
